Kowtow — Completely Natural, Completely Nature
Kowtow — Completely Natural, Completely Nature

Wow, they’ve done it. Kowtow (pronounced Koto), New Zealand’s beloved, environmentally conscious fashion brand’s autumn/winter collection has arrived on Lvl 02, and it’s officially their first 100% plastic free collection, honouring the preservation of our natural world, now and forever.

Kowtow is synonymous with ease and comfort, stretch and softness, clothing that breathes. The brand has been using fair trade organic cotton from the very beginning, so sustainability is inherent in the brand’s culture, roots and DNA. 17 years on, Kowtow continues forging ahead with their strong ‘from the earth, back to the earth’ ethos, and their latest collection is a pinnacle moment, not only for the brand but also for the fashion industry.

Let’s just sit on Kowtow being ‘100% plastic free’ for a second longer: stylish and beautifully constructed garments made without ANY trace of synthetics, chemical processing or plastics derived from burning fossil fuels? Remarkable. And here’s something else to consider: because skin is the largest organ in the human body, can wearing ‘clean’ change the way we feel — not just tactically, but the ineffable effect it may have on our mood, our energy levels, our overall positivity? Intriguing…

Buying consciously adds value to our lives, our environment, and our earth’s future. Do good, feel good: that’s another big part of Kowtow’s overarching vision, and they are certainly leading by example. Their organic cotton is rainfed — not irrigated — and grown from biodynamic soil resulting in a superior quality fibre. Each piece of clothing could be returned back to the earth if need be, completely compostable rather than contributing to landfill. The finer details have also been fine-tuned: their buttons are now made from nut or seashells (a by-product of the Japanese fishing industry) and the stretch in their waistbands is natural rubber, procured from rubber plants. It seems so simple, but in fact, Kowtow is at the forefront of the hyper-sustainability revolution in fashion, and doing it with so much love, care and understated grace. There is a lot to be admired about this brand, and a lot to learn from them too.

Our first drop from the ‘Nature As Home’ collection features their popular singlets (including the new Daffodil hue), tailored pinstripe shirting, Freya skirt and slouchy Fragment shorts. Come in and say hi, experience the brand, feel the clothing, and see what difference it can make to you and the world.
